The Murder of Michael Hollingsworth

Murder of Michael Hollingsworth FrontWith no family left, Nicolette Mace: the Raven Siren has to make a name for herself as a private investigator things aren’t quite as simple as she would want them to be.

With Japanese business men in town and both Siren and Harry spending time with them, Fred is more than a little jealous. Put on top of that the kidnapping of overnight success, Michael Hollingsworth, and there is the greatest chance for things to go disastrously wrong.

Rather than bringing Siren in on the case, Fred is determined to keep her out of it. Is Hollingsworth still alive and who would want to kidnap a man with seemingly no enemies?

There didn’t seem to be a night that went by when it didn’t rain. The sound of the rain on the windscreen of the car and the wipers furiously clearing them away was an oddly soothing noise.

My name is Harry Lee. I’m a policeman, well a detective actually, and at this precise moment I was very drunk. In fact, I’d passed being very drunk some time ago and was into the realms of being absolutely steaming.

I was in the back of a car that was being driven at breakneck speed through the city – the woman driving had never been known for her caution, so it wasn’t a surprise that she was driving like this. I hoped that she wasn’t drunk too.

I couldn’t actually remember seeing her drink at any point during the evening, but most of the night had passed into being a rather dim haze of music and memory flashes.

“You can kick me out anywhere around here.” I managed to slur as I realised where we were. The man that was sat beside me looked at the driver to see what she wanted to do.

“You heard him.” she shrugged. The man leaned across me, opened the car door and pushed me out into the road.

Now it isn’t the first time I have been thrown out of a moving vehicle, but it was the first time that it was by someone that was supposedly a friend.

I lay in the road for a moment or two, but eventually decided that lying there was only going to get me run over. I groaned as the staggered to my feet.
