It’s finally here, after all the delays and other releases, the latest instalment of the Chronicles of Celadmore has arrived. Book 7 in the series is set 10 years after the events of End of Days, and is the first book in the Fading Dawn trilogy.

“Peace cannot survive as a new threat rises.”

Gruagadon is king, the dead kingdom of Nesca has been resurrected by the return of the Fallen Prince to the throne, but all is not well in the realm of Celadmore.

One evil has been defeated, Venetia, Allamonto, Kania and Nodarto gave their lives, along with many others, to defeat Aksoth, but as one evil falls another rises to take its place.

A new guardian brought the old age to an end, but the nature of evil is set to endure.

frontwdfdesignWhen Darkness Falls is out now on the Etsy store in paperback and in digital format. It follows the characters that survived the final confrontation in the city of Grashindorph and the start of the new age for Celadmore.

Not only does When Darkness Falls launch the third trilogy in the Chronicles of Celadmore series, it is the first book to follow a male protagonist instead of a female one. In the Rising Empire story arc, the story follows Queen Kasnata. In the Shroud of Darkness story arc, the books follow Queen Venetia. The Fading Dawn story arc follows Prince Malachi.

When Darkness Falls is also the book that features the lucky winners of the Murder in March contest held in 2016. Denise Meyer, Chris Turnbull and Rainne Atkins all won the chance to be killed off in this volume of the Celadmore series.

“The battlefield; a place where heroes are made, legends thrive, myths enthral and lives are broken.”

Crimson blood spattered the white floor and a cry escaped from between cracked and bruised lips. A glinting blade clattered to the floor.

“Such needless destruction.” Amused eyes gleamed in the candlelight and a frustrated figure punched the white marble. The light was low in the Hall of Kings in the Palace of Grashindorph.

It was closer to dawn than nightfall, but the young prince was determined to master his training before he went to bed.

All things were promised to Malachi, Prince of Grashindorph and the Order. The son of two kingdoms, a son of peace and a son of war.

We have something a little different for you all today, rather than posting about Good Friday and the symbolism of Easter, the Mightier Than the Sword UK blog is being taken over not by one of our authors, but by one of the characters.

We are handing over the blog to Cassandra, guardian of the wilds from the Chronicles of Celadmore series for a look at the downsides to being immortal, at least as far as she is concerned.

Something that all mortals seem to yearn for is a way to cheat death, to live beyond their years and often trying to gain immortality. There are some who spend their entire lives seeking eternal youth combine with eternal life, and others that come to the conclusion that they need to live longer when the autumn years of their life descend.

But no matter how they try to cheat death, they cannot escape it. But living forever is not all that it seems to be. There are several reasons that I have found that make immortality particularly unpalatable.

  1. Finding the armour you had 300 years ago is back in style and you have no idea where you left it.
  2. Keeping large amounts of gold in one location invariably leads to adventurers trying to either rob you, battle you for your gold hoard or creating grandiose myths that cause armies to try and storm your home.
  3. Keeping gold in multiple locations leads to you having to draw a map to keep track of where all of it is kept. after 100 years, people steal it thinking it is a treasure map.
  4. Being a great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandmother not only is a bit of a mouthful, but the only other person that can relate to how old it makes you feel is your mother.
  5. Trying to keep the same waist line over the millennia is a lot harder than most people think.
  6. Watching mortals bicker is funny at first, but after 2,000 years it becomes rather boring when the same arguments keeping coming around. You begin to wonder how it is that they haven’t worked out some kind of compromise.
  7. When someone finds your diary from your teenage years and they start gushing about discovering an ancient manuscript in a dead language that must hold the knowledge of ancients is actually quite hurtful.
  8. You have to spend your entire existence watching those that you love wither and die before your eyes. No matter how many times it happens, the pain only seems to grow as you carry more loss in your heart. It keeps growing until you stop caring and will death to take you.

Curious as to why Cassandra is so concerned with making immortality sound less attractive? You’ll be able to find out on Monday when When Darkness Falls, book 7 in the Chronicles of Celadmore is released.

With things in the process of changing around the Mightier Than the Sword UK Publications offices, we’ve had some delays and reworkings of release dates. To make it slightly easier to know what’s due to be released and when here is our guide to March and April.

March 2017

The Arm Rings of Yngvar Collection is the 31st book by C.S. Woolley to be published. It contains FATE, WAR, WIFRITH, DOUBT, SKANE, SHIPWRECKED, FEAR and HOME all in a single volume.

Brother is the debut novel from Marlena R. Smith and is a Military Science Fiction story about brothers-in-arms.

All Hallows’ Eve in Stickleback Hollow is the second book in the series and takes place a few weeks after the first instalment in the series, A Thief in Stickleback Hollow (which is also the perfect gift for Mother’s Day).

April 2017

April sees the delayed release of WYRD, book 1 in the Children of Snotingas series and When Darkness Falls, the long anticipated sequel to End of Days.

April is also when we see the latest instalment in the Raven Siren main narrative, the Lily & Rose Saga, following on from the Derek Long Saga and finally gives readers some answers as to what happened to Fred and Siren.

Well February has seen us going from strength to strength for us in the Mightier Than the Sword UK offices and here is just a sample of what’s been going on.

FEAR

Fear front

Fear rises as courage fails.

Ribe has withstood all the attacks that the warriors of Hedeby and Schleswig can throw at them, but with the snows of winter set about the town, no help comes from the other towns of the Danes.

But the strength of King Viggo is failing. When victory seemed within his grasp, he is taken ill on the battlefield and the warriors withdraw. Cold, half-starved and deprived of their leader, the army at the gates of Ribe seems certain to retreat. Sibel, still a prisoner, discovers the secret of the arm ring that Viggo wears whilst the dangerous Queen Rena makes her move to seize full control of Hedeby.

Only Christian and Eva have yet to find their arm rings of Yngvar as the children reach the island of Sjœland. They know that one of the rings of Lolland is missing and know that in order to collect all eight; they will need to find the arm ring near Roskilde and return to fight Viggo and finally bring an end to war.

You can get your copy direct from out Etsy store for £5.99 in paperback and £1.80 in digital format.

HOME

home front

There’s no place like home.

The Children of Ribe have found all but the last arm ring of Yngvar, an arm ring that everyone but Sibel thinks King Viggo Odinsen has. Eva Axeldatter is the only one who hasn’t claimed an arm ring yet and time is running out for Wifrith.

It is time for the children to return home, to bring an end to the fighting and restore the peace between the tribes. But even with Ciara dead, there are still those who can stop the Children of Ribe as some people will stop at nothing when it comes to revenge.

Can Wifrith finally find redemption, and can Erland, Dalla, Eva, Christian, Riki, Pieter, Camila, Beatrix, Joas and Oleg defeat the darkness that threatens not just Ribe but all of the tribes of Denmark?

You can get your copy direct from out Etsy store for £5.99 in paperback and £1.80 in digital format.

BROTHERS

brother-front

SOLDIERS ARE THERE TO KILL AND BE KILLED

They see us only as numbers, as less than them, created to be Soldiers made to fight in their war. But we are more than that, we are brothers, we gave ourselves names.

Some of us will live through training, but some of us will die. Soldiers are there to be killed, whether from their tests or because we fail in our mission. Soldiers are there to kill, fighting in a war we didn’t ask for.

But even amongst brothers there are secrets. There is something that they are not telling me. My brothers tell me I’m special, but I just don’t see it. Soldiers are there to kill and be killed, so why am I so important? Brotherhood will be put to the test as we battle to be the best. I am a soldier, I was made to fight their war, I cannot lose.

You can get your copy direct from out Etsy store for £13.99 in paperback and £2.39 in digital format.

Looking for somewhere to get away to this summer? Don’t have a huge budget to spend on expensive hotels and five star dining? Well, we at Mightier Than the Sword UK have the solution – why not try holidaying in Celadmore?

Summer in Celadmore 01

Celadmore is a realm that offers a wide range of different destinations with activities and landscapes to suit even the fussiest of holiday makers.

Kasna Beach 1

Prince Kasna Nosfa, Rising Empire: Part2

There are beaches galore to be found in Celadmore, but the finest beaches we have to offer can be found around the sun-drenched shores of the Silver Ocean.

Venetia Stars 1

Queen Venetia Silvermoore, Lady of Fire

You aren’t limited to activities in the daytime either – the night skies in Celadmore are some of the finest you’ll see anywhere in the universe, making Celadmore the perfect destination for those who love to stargaze.

Misna Champions 1

Raven General Misna, Rising Empire: Part 1

Our warriors are proud of the blood that flows through their veins and compete in often brutal competitions to show the superiority of their race. You may have heard rumours of the war of the Nine Kingdoms, the Dragonian Wars, the War of the East and the Conquest of Aksoth’s forces, but we can assure you, these are nothing more than unsubstantiated gossip.*

Alacana Abbey 1

Queen Alacana Ramos, Shroud of Darkness

Of course, Celadmore has it’s quiet side as well. The plains of Celadmore are littered with abbeys and temples that offer a place for quiet reflection and escape from the rush of everyday life. There are rules about who can enter some of the abbeys and temples though, so be sure to check before you set of to visit them.

Kasnata Mountains 1

Queen Kasna Nosfa, Rising Empire: Part 1

For those who prefer a cool climate and snow sports, the Blue Mountains offer the perfect setting for ice climbing, trekking on our stunning glaciers, skiing and snowboarding, though we do advise you watch out of the wildlife that inhabits the area, some of it is more than a little unfriendly.

Gruagadon Ruins 1

Prince Gruagadon Tutesk, End of Days

There are lots of historic ruins the visit across Celadmore, some more recent than others, that give you the opportunity to experience our rich history and discover some of the darker secrets of the realm.

Rathe Mountains Small 1

General Rathe Bird, Rising Empire: Part 1

It’s not just the surface of Celadmore that you can explore, there are also all the cave cities and settlements that are carved into the hill and mountainsides across the realm.

Kia Fields 1

Princess Kia Nosfa, Rising Empire: Part 2

For those who are much more interested in nature than in exploring the human elements of Celadmore, there are a plethora of wide open spaces to be explored and experienced and enough native wildlife to keep even the most experienced entomologists happy.

twin swords 1

Queen Venetia Silvermoore and Queen Alacana Ramos, Shroud of Darkness

*Mightier Than the Sword UK accepts no responsibility for wars breaking out across Celadmore. If you find yourself in the middle of a battle, we advise you hide or pick up a sword.

Misna Dragons 1

Raven General Misna, Rising Empire: Part 3

The Chronicles of Celadmore is a fantasy book series by C.S. Woolley and features the following titles:

Rising Empire: Part 1, Rising Empire: Part 2, Rising Empire: Part 3, Shroud of Darkness, Lady of Fire and End of Days are all available in digital and paperback format from a wide range of booksellers around the world. Digital copies start from just 59p per copy (kobo).

“I’d finally finished Shroud of Darkness after 12 years of writing it, I was so sick of writing the series that I had to take a break from it. In fact, I took a break for a while from writing and Lady of Fire is the book that I came back to writing with.”

Things are looking bleak for Celadmore as Lady of Fire moves the characters from this generation down a road of war.

“A lot of the characters had to grow up in Lady of Fire, they had to put aside childish notions of what they wanted the world to be like and face up to the reality that was in front of them – find hope and joy wherever they could. It’s something I was going through myself when I was writing the book. At the time I hadn’t intended to pour so much of what I felt into the book, but now that I go back and look at it, I’m really glad I did. I think the story is stronger for it.”

When it comes to reviews, Lady of Fire seems to be fairly well received so far.

“This sequel to Shroud of Darkness picks up exactly where the previous book left off without even missing a beat. The opening sees the characters from the previous book reeling in the wake of the plot twist and deciding what they will do next.

Having been led through Shroud of Darkness not seeing the plot twist coming, Lady of Fire is full of revelations that make all the little nagging elements from Shroud of Darkness make much more sense. The feeling you have all the way through that Gruagadon shouldn’t be trusted but you can’t help but ignore the doubts about him because of how well he present himself.

Some of the loose ends from Shroud of Darkness are tied up and the development in relationships between the characters is wonderful. One of the best parts of this book is how the minor characters such as the children of the royal line have time to develop and really make you invest even more in the world of Celadmore and what they are struggling with.

Can’t wait to see what happens next.” – Taken from Goodreads

“Lady of Fire has some really brutal moments in it for the characters, things happen that completely transform relationships and also put their reputations on the line. It’s much grittier than Shroud of Darkness and the outlook really isn’t great for Celadmore.”

Lady of Fire is available for £1.99 in digital formats and £9.99 in paperback formats from all good retailers. You can get your copy now from amazon.

Did you know?

Lady of Fire was the first book in the Chronicles of Celadmore to get a catchy tagline? All the books have a short tagline to go with them, but Lady of Fire was the first to have one.

A range of notecards and other posters featuring the character faces and quotes (some of which you can see further up in this blog post) are due to be released along with a range of bookmarks and postcards** slightly later this year. The notecards and posters featuring the characters are being released to raising money for charity. 50% of the profits from every sale of the notecards and posters featuring the characters are to be split between two charities – 25% of the profits going to the Broad Appeal and 25% of the profits going to the British Heart Foundation. Though we don’t have an official release date for these yet, we do know you will be able to order them for collection at the UK Indie Lit Fest (that C.S. Woolley and Steven M. Caddy are attending) and you will be able to purchase them for delivery through this site as well as through Etsy.

** the designs for the bookmarks and postcards have yet to be released.
